Smith Collects Second National Player of Week Honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Richland's Trey Smith was chosen as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Baseball Player of the Week.

It is the second time he's won the national award this season.

A sophomore outfielder from San Antonio, Smith hit .615 (8 for 13) with five doubles, a home run, eight runs batted in, five runs scored and two walks as No. 6 Richland swept a three-game series from Dallas College Mountain View. He produced a 1.231 slugging percentage and 1.856 on-base plus slugging percentage during the series sweep. Smith was 6 for 6 with four doubles and three RBI in a 15-12 win. He crushed a homer in the first game of the series. He drove in multiple runs in each of the three wins.

Smith is batting a team-leading .435 with a nation-leading 24 doubles, eight home runs and 51 RBI, which ranks third in the nation.

The Thunderducks (25-17, 14-5 Dallas Athletic conference) host Dallas College Brookhaven (24-20, 12-7) for the final two games of a three-game series 12 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
