No. 6 Thunderducks Win Series vs. Suns

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Richland's baseball team won the final game of a three-game set with host Dallas College Cedar Valley, 13-3 Saturday, to claim the series.

The Thunderducks, ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, won the second game 10-4 a day earlier.

Caleb Solis crushed two home runs, and drove in seven runs, going 2 for 4 with a walk for Richland (28-20, 17-7 Dallas Athletic Conference). Bobby Gutierrez also homered, and went 3 for 5 with two RBI.

The Thunderducks scored four runs in the fourth to take a three-run lead. They added two more in the sixth, one in the seventh and six in the ninth. Cedar Valley (21-25, 7-17) scored one in the eighth and one in the ninth before Richland reliever Ryan Sidener recorded the last out.

Sean Amarante and Jordan Owns both went 2 for 4. Connor Haelzle was 2 for 5. Jhosnel Ruiz and Barrett Howard each had a hit. Owns and Gutierrez both had a stolen base.

Richland starter Braeden Baker worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits and a pair of walks, while striking out two. Oliver Tavarez went 2 1/3 innings in middle relief, limiting the Suns to a hit and a walk. Aidan Valenzuela gave up one run on two hits and no walks in an inning of work. Sidener pitched the last inning, allowing a run, a hit and three walks, and had one strikeout.

The Thunderducks host No. 3 Dallas College Eastfield noon Thursday on Pack the Park Day. Free food and drink will be available for fans.
