Smith, Farr Earn All-America Honors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Richland first baseman Trey Smith was named a First Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Baseball Committee.
Richland pitcher Bron Farr was selected as a Third Team All-American.
It is the second year in a row Smith earned First Team All-America honors.
A sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, Smith hit .421 with a nation-leading 99 hits, 30 doubles and 176 total bases. He belted 13 home runs, which tied for seventh in the country. He had four triples and 74 runs batted in, which was second in the nation. Smith had 10 stolen bases, a .749 slugging percentage and .517 on-base percentage. He was hit by 27 pitches, which ranked third in NJCAA Division III. Smith had three or more hits in 15 games, including a career-high six, with four doubles, in a win at Dallas College Mountain View. He homered twice, and drove in a career-high six runs in a win over Dallas College North Lake.
A sophomore left-hander from San Antonio, Farr went 8-3 with a 2.77 earned run average and 50 strikeouts in a nation-leading 107.1 innings pitched. His eight wins were tied for seventh in the country. He made 18 appearances, starting a nation-leading 17 games. Farr did not allow an earned run in four games, including a complete game victory over Dallas College Eastfield. He struck out a career-high seven batters at NJCAA Division I Bossier Parish Community College.
Smith was voted the Dallas Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player, and Farr was chosen as the DAC Pitcher of the Year.
