DALLAS – Dallas College Richland's baseball team remained in the cluster near the top of the Dallas Athletic Conference standings with a series win over Dallas College Brookhaven.
The Thunderducks, who were ranked in the Top 15 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll for a few weeks this season, won the first two games against Brookhaven to maintain pace with No. 6 Dallas College North Lake for second place in the DAC. The Thunderducks (20-21-1, 12-9 DAC) beat the Bears 17-6 in seven innings in Game 1, and followed it up with an 8-7 victory in Game 2 to clinch the final regular season series between the two teams.
Brookhaven (18-23, 11-10) won the last game 16-3 in seven innings.
Richland remains tied with North Lake for second place in the league, although the Blazers hold the tiebreaker, having won the first series 2-1. The two teams will meet in the final regular season series in three weeks. Brookhaven sits a game behind the two, with Richland holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Bears.
Richland left fielder Brandon Bell had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in a season-high five runs in the Game 1 run-rule win. Second baseman Xavier Perdomo, designated hitter Mason Anania and first baseman Jacob Long each had three hits, and third baseman Cooper Reaves was 2 for 4 with a pair of solo home runs. Long drove in three runs, and Max McLemore and Caleb Solis each homered. McLemore also had three RBI.
The Thunderducks' 18 hits were a season high.
Richland scored nine runs in the fifth inning to put the game away. The Thunderducks had a 6-1 lead after two innings.
In Game 2, the Thunderducks trailed 7-4 in the bottom of the ninth, but put four runs on the board to rally for the win to clinch the series.
Richland will host Angelina College 1 p.m. Monday before beginning a three-game DAC series at home Wednesday against Dallas College Cedar Valley. The series concludes with two games at Lancaster High School Friday and Saturday. All DAC series games are scheduled to begin at noon.
