Jon Havens enters his 13th season as the head men's basketball coach at Dallas College Richland in 2026-27.

After the 2025-26 season, Havens had an overall record of 231-105 and a conference mark of 97-37. During his tenure, the Thunderducks have won the regular season conference championship seven times, with six national tournament appearances, culminating with the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Championship. Fifty-seven players under Havens' tutelage have gone on to sign with four-year institutions, while seven players over that span earned NJCAA All-America honors.

Haven led the Thunderducks to the NJCAA Division III championship game in 2025-26, finishing as the national runner-up. His team went 23-10 overall, 13-2 in the Dallas Athletic Conference to win the league regular season title for a second straight year. The Thunderducks held the No. 2 national ranking, and beat Dallas College North Lake in the national semifinals. Jase Tarver was named an NJCAA Division III First Team All-American. Havens was given the DAC Coach of the Year award. 

In 2024-25, Havens led Richland to a third place finish at the NJCAA Division III national tournament. The Thunderducks beat top seed Dutchess Community College 67-60. They defeated Minnesota State Community and Technical College 86-69 in the third place game. Richland won the DAC regular season title. Barack Holland was an NJCAA Division III First Team All-American, while also being selected as the DAC Most Valuable Player. Havens was named DAC co-Coach of the Year.

Before taking over the Thunderducks' program, Havens was an assistant coach for the Northeastern State University Riverhawks. While at NSU, Havens oversaw all facets of the basketball program. During his time at Northeastern State, his recruiting classes led to the most successful four-year span in over 15 years, with two teams ranked in the NCAA Division II Top 10 polls, and one NCAA Tournament appearance.

Havens was an assistant coach at the University of Texas Pan-American for the 2009-10 season. At UTPA, Havens was the recruiting coordinator, whose responsibilities included constructing scouting reports on opponents, on-floor coaching and academics.

Prior to his stint at Texas Pan American, Havens spent two years as an assistant coach at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. During his time at St. Edward’s, Havens was a part of two NCAA Division II appearances and two conference championship teams, and coached six players that earned either all-conference or all-region accolades.

Preceding his time at St. Edward’s, Havens spent one season at Allen County Community College, where he was an assistant coach for the Red Devils in 2006-07. In the course of that season, the team finished second in the Jayhawk League Eastern Division with a 22-9 record, and advanced to the NJCAA Region VI Tournament. Seven athletes under the guidance of Havens went on to garner NCAA Division I scholarships.

Prior to coaching at ACCC, Havens was an assistant for the Heartland Conference member Incarnate Word under head coach Al Grushkin in 2005-06.

Havens was a four-year starter at the University of Texas San Antonio, earning All-Southland Conference honors. He led the team in three-point shooting during his career with the Roadrunners. He also finished his career fourth in school history in assists, sixth in three-point field goals made and 27th in scoring.

He was a four-year starter at Lewisville High School, and led the state of Texas in three-point shooting percentage for three consecutive years.

Havens graduated from UTSA in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He also received his Master of Science degree in health and kinesiology in 2013 from Northeastern State.
