No. 2 Richland Picks up Win, Draw in California

NORCO, Calif. – Dallas College Richland's No. 2-ranked men's soccer team picked up a win and a draw in its weekend trip to California.

The Thunderducks (2-0-1) beat El Camino College 3-2 Friday before tying Norco College 1-1 Sunday.

Richland outshot El Camino 13-8 in the first game, and scored two first half goals to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Luis Gallegos scored in the ninth minute on an assist from Edgar Chavelas to spot the Thunderducks a one-goal lead. Maximilian Vega padded the lead to two goals when he score on a feed from Dubbie Cannon in the 33rd minute.

El Camino made it 2-1 in the 50th minute when Danniell Bueno scored on a setup from Jaden Hancock.

Richland's Luis Marquez tacked on a big goal in the 62nd minute to extend the lead to 3-1. Gallegos had the assist.

Jaden Hancock pulled the Warriors (1-1-1) within a goal when he converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute. But the Thunderducks didn't allow the equalizer in a physical game.

Goalie Victor Gomez stopped four shots to pick up his second win of the season for Richland. El Camino's Luis Avelar made six saves in the loss for the Warriors.

Two nights later, the Thunderducks got off 11 shots, and Gomez stopped four of the five shots he faced to settle on a draw with Norco.

The Mustangs (1-0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute. But Richland responded 13 minutes later when Abdiel Pineda found the back of the net for the equalizer. Marquez and Sebastian Gonzalez each had an assist on the game-tying goal.

It was Pineda's third goal of the year.

Richland will host Miami Dade College 10 a.m. Sunday.
