No. 12 Thunderducks Take Momentum into DAC Opener

ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 12 Dallas College Richland women's basketball team will take some momentum into its Dallas Athletic Conference opener.

The Thunderducks (5-8) beat Arlington Baptist University Junior Varsity 69-50 awat from home Wednesday. Richland will begin the four-game conference season at Dallas College Cedar Valley (7-9, 1-0 DAC) in the 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 in the DAC Game of the Week

Three Thunderducks starters scored in double figures against the Patriots. Mahagony Jackson-Walker finished with 17 points, going 5 of 9 from the floor and 6 for 6 at the free throw line. Sanaa Darensberg had 15 points, three assists and two steals. Kiana Thornton had 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. The trio combined to make six three-pointers.

Essence Hurndon had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, while knocking down four of seven field goals off the bench. Kristen Thomas grabbed six rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Aspen Hicks had five points, five boards and a block.

Richland, which shot 40 percent from the 3-point line, led by one after the first quarter. The Thunderducks outscored the Patriots 51-33, putting the game away in the final period. Richland outscored ABU 17-9 in the fourth.

The Thunderducks grabbed 16 of their 33 rebounds on the offensive glass.
