Women's Basketball Collects 6 All-DAC Honors

DALLAS – Three Dallas College Richland women's basketball players received First Team All-Dallas Athletic Conference honors and three Thunderducks picked up Second Team All-DAC awards.

Sanaa Darensberg, Kiana Thornton and Mahagony Jackson-Walker were First Team recipients. Aspen Hicks, Kristen Thomas and Essence Hurndon were Second Team honorees.

A sophomore guard, Darensberg leads Richland in scoring at 12.5 points per game. She's averaging 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals. It is the second year she received First Team All-DAC distinction.

A freshman guard, Thornton averages 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, and shoots 35.2 percent from three-point range.

Jackson-Walker, a sophomore guard, is second on the team in scoring (9.0), and pulls down 5.2 rebounds, while shooting just under 70 percent from the free throw line.

A sophomore forward, Hicks leads the Thunderducks in rebounds per game (7.6), and is scoring 7.8 points per game. She also is shooting just under 70 percent at the free throw stripe.

Thomas, a sophomore forward, is averaging 6.7 points and 7.5 rebounds.

A sophomore forward, Hurndon is averaging 4.2 points and 6.5 rebounds.

Richland (10-10) will play Northland Community & Technical College (23-5) in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Tournament 6 p.m. Wednesday in Brownwood, Texas.
