Bio

Troy Thrasher was hired as Dallas College Richland women's basketball head coach in July 2023. He begins his 34th season overall in coaching in 2026-27.

Thrasher won his 100th career game as a college coach in the 2025-26 season on Dec. 2 when Richland beat Nelson University Junior Varsity 70-39. Following the 2025-26 season, Thrasher has a record of 31-32 at Richland. He has an overall head coaching record of 107-81 at the collegiate level, which includes four seasons at Brown Mackie College.

In 2025-26, Thrasher's team advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Tournament for the first time in program history. The Thunderducks beat Dallas College Mountain View 65-62 in the NJCAA Division III Central District championship to reach the national tournament. It was the second straight year Richland won at least 10 games.

In 2024-25, Thrasher coached Richland to a 16-8 overall, 3-1 Dallas Athletic Conference record. The Thunderducks won the Dallas Athletic Conference regular season title for the first time in program history, and advanced to the Central District semifinals. Paris Beard was named NJCAA Division III Third Team All-American. Thrasher was named DAC Coach of the Year.

In his first year with the program, Thrasher guided the team to a 5-12 record – an improvement of four wins from the previous season. Beard was named First Team All-American.

Thrasher was the assistant women's basketball coach at Cowley College from 2013-23. The Tigers went 217-97 during that time, winning at least 20 games for seven straight seasons from 2013-20. Cowley advanced to the NJCAA Division I Final Four in 2017 and 2018 after winning the Region VI championship in 2016. The Tigers advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament for the first time since 1989 in 2015-16.

From 2009-13, Thrasher served as the head coach at Brown Mackie College-Salina. He became Brown Mackie's all-time winningest head coach, going 76-49. In 2012-13, his team won a school-record 14 consecutive games en route to a 23-9 overall mark, which tied the program record for most wins in a season. That team led all junior colleges in Kansas in points per game (75.5). His teams posted three straight 20-win seasons from 2010-13.

From 2007-09, Thrasher was the assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Dallas. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Sacred Heart High School from 2004-07. He coached in the Salina Area All-Star Game from 2004-07. Thrasher was the head coach at RL Paschal High School in 2003-04. He was the assistant coach at Dodge City High School in 2002-03. From 1999-02, he was the head coach at Inman High School. His team finished third in the Class 2A state tournament in 2001. In 2002, Inman won the Heart of America League title. That year, he was named the 2A Boys Southwest Hutchinson News Coach of the Year. In 2000, Inman won the Heart of America League championship. He had a 184-88 head coaching record at the high school level.

Thrasher served as the assistant coach at Hutchinson Community College from 1997-99, where his teams advanced to the Region VI Elite Eight in 1998 and 1999. He was also the head men's golf coach at Hutchinson from 1997-99, collecting back-to-back Region VI Division II championships and Coach of the Year honors. From 1993-97, he was the assistant coach at Newton High School. His team made a state tournament appearance in 1995.

Thrasher aslso served as the assistant coach and assistant general manager with the Dodge City Legend in the United States Basketball League. He also coached with USA Athletes International women's team, and has run Heat of America basketball camps.

Thrasher earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Emporia State University in 1994. He earned a Master of Education in sports administration from Wichita State University in May 2002. He is the father of two, McKenzie and Madison.
