Kelly Covert Named Volleyball Coach at Dallas College Richland

DALLAS – Kelly Covert was named head volleyball coach at Dallas College Richland.

A native of Gainesville, Texas, Covert has dedicated her life to volleyball and the student-athletes she serves. A five-sport standout in high school, her heart always belonged to volleyball.

Covert earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a minor in health promotion from the University of North Texas, followed by a master's degree in sport and performance psychology with a focus on positive coaching.

Her coaching résumé spans several Texas high schools, including Brewer, Everman and Lake Worth High School, where she led the Bullfrogs to their first playoff win in 17 years, and helped athletes break five school records in a single season. Under her leadership, Lake Worth celebrated its first college volleyball commits with student-athletes moving on to play at Richland and Dallas College North Lake in the Dallas Athletic Conference.

Covert later coached at Little Elm High School, competing in one of the most rigorous districts in Texas 6A volleyball. Most recently, she coached at powerhouse Frisco Lone Star High School.

Her club experience includes coaching with TAV, and leading local clinics and camps across North Texas, particularly in areas with limited access to high-level training. She has also served as the Nike Volleyball Camp Director for Frisco.

Covert is a lifelong learner and avid researcher, continuously studying the sport through programs and organizations such as Texas Woman's University, Texas Christian University, Gold Medal Squared, Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas Girls Coaches Association,and the Art of Coaching. Her coaching philosophy is grounded in science-backed methods, positive sport psychology and fundamental principles of athletic development

Now leading the Thunderducks, Covert is focused on building an elite environment that promotes excellence in volleyball, academics and life. She is the proud mother of Jaxon, a 2025 graduate of Little Elm High School, who will also be attending the University of North Texas to pursue a degree in business.
